But like anything exposed to the elements, it won't last forever. Is it time to retire your lift and look for an upgrade? Here are 5 signs that it might be time to replace your lift before next season:

Visible rust and corrosion - Water, moisture, and general wear and tear can breakdown the integrity of a boat lift overtime. If you see rust or corrosion eating away at your framing or cables, this is a major red flag.

Sluggish or struggling operation - Your lift that once worked like a dream is beginning to stall, slow down or hitch? This isn't just annoying, it could also be a safety hazard. If your lift is struggling to lift your boat it could be outdated or worn out.

Frequent service calls - Occasional maintenance is normal, but frequently calling in to have the same issue repaired could be a sign that it's time to replace that lift.

Outdated capacity - If you have made the switch to a larger or different style boat than what your lift is originally intended for this is a no brainer sign that it is time for a new and improved lift to match your new investment.
